The Call of Cthulhu is Strong This Time of Year

As is my custom in the fall, I tend to be drawn toward Lovecraft's legacy more so than during the other seasons. In the gaming realm, I turn to what has become my favorite card game, Call of Cthulhu LCG. With the excellent solo rules found on Board Game Geek, I am able to play in my spare moments. Which is exactly what I did this past week and weekend.

First up, I played a game using the Cthulhu Rising solo rules version 1. I had recently built a Miskatonic University deck around the Explorers sub faction. I decided to play against Shub. It was a really close game losing 3 stories to 2. It was tense and the thinking got brain-burny. I loved every second of it.

For my next game, I decided to finally give the Cthulhu Rising rules version 2.0. It is a bit more complicated than version 1, but I figured I really had nothing to lose to try it out. For the first game, I decided to play against the mighty Cthulhu.

The game was a tense one, but in the end, my explorers were only able to win 1 story to 3. I thought in the beginning I was going to get further than I did, but an amazing draw of characters on the part of Cthulhu and a less than stellar character draw for me, spelled the scholars' doom.

Version 2 didn't prove to be too much more complicated than version 1, so I will be playing it over version 1 for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of Lovecraft's legacy, our Trail of Cthulhu has continued. Our investigators have found themselves in Ethiopia following the trail of a cultist professor who may hold the key to the fateful night in August many years ago.

I do love fall!

Into the Fall...

In the Starshield Gaming Society, fall is in full swing and Weezoh is running our annual Lovecraft game. This year is the Eternal Lies campaign for Trail of Cthulhu. So far, so great and creepy. Great role-playing at its finest.

In other tabletop news:

Max and I have been playing the new and exciting VS. System 2PCG from Upper Deck Entertainment. I am really enjoying it! Things the game has in common with Call of Cthulhu LCG: Draw 2 cards a round, any card can be a resource.

It is a fast-paced and fun game. I can't stop thinking about playing it. Sign of a good game, if you ask me. Looking forward to crushing SurfMonkey in it in a couple of weeks.

The Red Dragon Tabletop Gaming Society has begun. I taught a student how to play Ashes and plan on running a D&D game for a couple of sessions.

Fall has begun. Let the games begin!
