Mage Gets Married: 2nd Edition. And Lazy Saturday CoC LCG

This past Friday, Mage (last featured in this post) got married for the second time. And I must say, he did it right this time. The bachelor party started off with IMStuds, Mage, and I in the Geek Cave with some Dead of Winter. We won! Love this game!

We ran out for lunch and brought Zoltar back with us for more gaming. IMStuds and Mage faced off across the battlefield of Itharia while Zoltar and I had a dog fight. Zoltar won our fight, but it was close. A couple of miscalculated maneuvers turned out to be my doom. We started another scenario in Dead of Winter, but didn't get to finish before the schedule of the agenda of the bachelor party took precedence.

The rest of the bachelor party did not involve games, so now we leave its tale to the mists...

Throughout the past two days, though, Maximan and I got in a game of Epic (can't wait to get the entire game!)

And I managed to get in a game of Call of Cthulhu solo. I played my Hunter deck vs. Cthulhu. I really like the way that game plays. Looking forward to the fall when the weather will inspire the theme.

Hopefully, I can get in some more gaming before school starts. D&D tomorrow, though. That will be great.

Until next time, gamers, keep on gaming!

Power Legion is a Hit!

Finally got two games of Power Legion to the table. The first game Dinoboy played Alex Drake and Maximan played Ambush. I played Morlock and the Dark Infernal. All characters are statted in earlier posts.

The battle commenced with Ambush taking and firing from cover. She pretty much took out Morlock before he could do much. Dark Infernal closed with Alex Drake and the two pummeled and flamed each other until finally Alex Drake brought the heinous villain low.

The second game we played took place in a ruined city after an alien attack. There were craters everywhere (Newly bought Pegasus Hobbies terrain and on my new 2' x 3' Zuzzy Wounded City battle mat).

In this game we played 4 models to a side: The boys played the following heroes (all statted in a previous post except Stonewall whose stats are provided below): Dinoboy was playing Alex Drake and Freezer Burn, while Maximan was playing Stonewall and Ambush.

I played Lord Dominus, Ogre, Battle Ape, and K'Thund. Battle Ape's stats were published in a previous post the other three characters are below for your convenience.

Stonewall mini.jpgStonewall (606 pts.)
M: d6 A: d6  S: d12  K: d12
Traits:   Reinforced Rock Body: d12, Toughness
Ace: Breather

Lord Dominus ( 780 pts.)
M: d12 A: d6  S: d4  K: d8
Traits: Telepathy d12, Telekinesis d10, Strong Will d12, Armor d8, Tactics d8, MasterMind d10, Leadership d8
Ace: Mind Game

Ogre ( 436 pts.)
M: d4 A: d8  S: d12  K: d12
Traits:   Tough Skin: d8, Toughness, Easy Target
Ace: Haymaker

K’Thund ( 647 pts.)
M: d4 A: d8  S: d12  K: d12
Traits:   Tough Skin: d8, Toughness, Sonic Attack d10, Berserk Fury
Ace: Revenge

Here are some pics from the fight:

Battle Ape fell first having taken arrows from Ambush and an ice blast from Freezer Burn. He couldn't catch a break. Lord Dominus mind controlled Freezer Burn while K'Thund and Stonewall clashed. Stonewall eventually got the better of K'Thund (who had taken several arrows before closing with Stonewall), sending the beast to sleepy time land. Lord Dominus held out a bit longer having taken control of Stonewall, but a direct hit from Ambush ended his domination. Ogre stood until the very end, but finally fell under a pummeling from the heroes.

In the games we used a Damage Effects Table I put together. If you are interested in using it in your own Power Legion games click HERE . I was really happy with how the table worked in combat. It added an extra layer of tension and structure to the damage roll.

In other news, we have brought X Wing to the table for a few skirmishes over the past couple of days. I forgot how fun this game is. Maximan is especially enamored with it. We just bought an E Wing at our FLGS. Here are some pictures of our dogfights.

In the coming days there will be more games. Power Legion, X Wing? Who knows, but one thing for sure, the gaming table will be crowded. Until next time, dear reader, keep the dice rolling!

SurfMonkey Invades and Pilots His Way to Victory

Tuesday night, SurfMonkey came over for our monthly game night. On the menu this night was some oh, so sweet Star Wars X Wing miniatures game. SurfMonkey  had recently bought the Millennium Falcon and Slave 1. How can I pass up a pedigree like that? Then it was  agreed we would play Warhammer Invasion to top off the night. Woo Hoo, what a night! We decided on 126 point squadrons. We quickly chose our ships and upgrades. I insisted he play the Millennium Falcon. After all, it is his game.
I chose the Imperials and Slave 1. The battle was furious with the advantage shifting back and forth. There were ridiculously good rolls on both sides. I would say with the exception of the Falcon inadvertently leaving the battlefield, it was a clean dogfight.

In the end, Luke and R2 won the day. And that's okay because R2 deserves it.  Below are my starting squadron and cards, SurfMonkey's starting squadron, and then several pictures of the dogfight in progress. We played on a Banners on the Cheap creation, a vinyl mat with a starfield printed on it. It was perfect for the game. Very cool.

After fighting in a galaxy not so far away, we finished off the night with a single game of Warhammer Invasion. I am currently a rabid fan. SurfMonkey stepped up to the challenge and played the Dwarves vs. my Orcs. The decks were random according to my formula, so it was about the draw and player skill. In the end, the orcs overwhelmed the poor dwarves, and SurfMonkey and I ended the night each with a win in our respective games.

I am already looking forward to next month when we may finally play Lord of the Rings Card Game. Only Gandalf knows, I suppose. Until next time, good reader, may your ships fly true and the cards never let you down.

Peace.

Two Months of SurfMonkey

Two gaming sessions ago, SurfMonkey arrived with Netrunner and Star Wars: X Wing both Fantasy Flight Games games. Both were released at Gen Con this past August as well. Of course, famously Netrunner sold out at the Con in 7 minutes. Star Wars: X Wing is also selling quite well. Both of these games are huge hits. Were they a hit with us, read on and find out...

First up was Netrunner:

My faction for the game is pictured below...

I never played Netrunner back in the day, so this was my first exposure to it. I think the game is sound, but the two factions Surf and I faced off against each other were complete nemeses. As a result, the game was not very fun for me, but after another play, I think I may have more fun.

Next up was Star Wars: X Wing:

My experience with SW X Wing was a better one. I really enjoyed playing this game. The hidden tactical choices and the measuring sticks, and the MINIS! Just an awesome experience. I may be buying this one for Max and me for Christmas.

We finished the night with a game of Martian Dice. Good times.

Month the Second:

SurfMonkey brought over the highly-anticipated game: Mice and Mystics by Geek Cave favorite: Plaid Hat Games. Now this is a game. It is a unique kind of story telling game that is part board game, part role-playing game. I really enjoyed it. Below are some pics of this gorgeous game:

These were my characters.

Love the components...

Awesome sculpts!

 Centipedes and spiders, oh, my!

I really like this game and look forward to playing it again.

For the second game of the night, SurfMonkey and I joined forces against the evil of the Ennead in the Multiverse, and we were its Sentinels.
SurfMonkey brought his Bannersonthecheap.com custom play mat. It added a cool visual dimension to the game.

 The Ennead defeated.

Looking forward to next month when we may head back to Middle-Earth but not before we participate in a Mage War!

Thanks for reading, and until next time, roll some dice, sling some cards, and save the multiverse!
