Summon SurfMonkey like Magic. It was Epic!!!

It had been five long months since SurfMonkey and I had sat down across from the gaming table for some dice chukkin' and card slingin'. But last night it finally was back to the battlefield. He brought the brand new shiny Magic Arena of the Planeswalkers Tactical Miniature Combat Game. We played two games with me as Jace and him as Chandra. The first game I made a huge tactical gamble and paid for it with Jace becoming surrounded by fire cats and Phoenixes. So much for Jace. Burning for a rematch, we set up another game, same Planeswalkers and went at it again. This time, Jace was wiser and prevailed.

The production values are great and the gameplay is fast and easily managed. I really like the addition of the spell cards to miniatures combat. I would definitely play it again but am still on the fence as to whether it is a purchase for me or not because I am not sure it replaces my Song of Blades and Heroes/Power Legion/or Fear and Faith for me. But the more I think about it, the more I think it will end up in my collection eventually...

The rest of the game night we played the print and play version of the awesome game I Kickstarted recently from White Wizard Games, the company that brought us Star Realms. It is a Magic-style game without all the drawbacks: Epic the Card Game.

Max and I and The HoCrain played it heavily over the past several days, so it was time to get SurfMonkey in on the action. We played an introductory game then we Solomon drafted decks and played a couple more. It is a fast dueling card game that really lives up to its name. I can't wait until September to get the full game and really watch it explode. I foretell it will be huge!

Summertime gaming has been in full swing here at magehammer's Gaming Table. Dungeons and Dragons, Star Realms, Vanguard, and Song of Blades of Heroes have hit the table in the past couple of days. I have also been playing Sentinels of the Multiverse the Video Game and Battlelore Command like it's my job. I love my hobby!

More gaming goodness coming. Stay tuned!

  1. Have you had the chance to try out any of the Infernal Relics characters since the expansion went live on Monday?

    1. Yes! I played out an entire story line. It began with the Ennead discovering their relics and causing trouble for Ra and friends in the Tomb of Anubis.

The Apostate appeared and threatened Fanatic and Ra--who recruited Argent Adept and Nightmist to help them. But they beat him back.

Then. The Ennead set released the Gloomweaver into our dimension where Nightmist, Ra, and others fought valiantly in the Realm of Discord, banishing Gloomweaver.

From there, Akash'Buhta was unleashed upon Insula Primalis and members of the Freedom Five came to the rescue with Ra for mystical back up.

I managed to win each battle!
