SurfMonkey's Quest

SurfMonkey came over for our monthly night o' games. He brought over the brand new Lord of the Rings Card Game. After I got the hang of the rules it was on. It is a cooperative game for up to four players. We played each of the four decks over the course of the evening. I must say the Spirit Deck felt more 'me' than the Tactics Deck I played. However, in the Tactics Deck, I did get to play Gimli, Legolas, and Thalin. Those guys did kick butt. In the end, however, I was overcome by my threat level. I am blaming Gandalf because he never showed up on my side of the board.

The Quest Begins...

Lots of Spiders. Some orcs, too...

Gimli wounded, but kicking butt thanks to some awesome armor...

We also got in one game of Summoner Wars. Of course. The night wouldn't be complete without a game of Summoner Wars. We decided to roll randomly for our factions. I rolled the Jungle Elves, and SurfMonkey rolled the Vanguards.

I was out of the gate with the Lioneers and managed an early game advantage by wounding his summoner. He rallied, though, getting out tons of Champions. I had a Champion of my own, however. The Champions fought to the death.

In the end, however, it was a lowly archer who felled Sera behind her wall of protectors with an Arcing Shot. Oh, sweet victory.

SurfMonkey will return again in the middle of June. We shall see what games will make it to my gaming table that night, but until then, fellow gamer, roll some dice and good gaming....

SurfMonkey Returns...

Last night the stars aligned and SurfMonkey made it over and what a night it was. We finally got to try out the Jungle Elves and Cloaks factions for Summoner Wars. All kinds of goodness going on with those decks! I love the mobility and Chant of Negation of the Jungle Elves and the Thief and sneakiness and Cloak of Shadows on the Cloaks side. Fun factions to play!

Not such a good night for me, though. We each took a turn playing the factions against each other. SurfMonkey came out on top in both games. I must say, strategy and tactics was sound on both sides. These games came down to my inability to hit in combat, and SurfMonkey's inability to miss!

He won both games we played as you can see by the pictures below. Ouch. I will not be kept down, though. Next time I will be victorious!

Then we decided to shift gears and go for a co-op game. One of my favorites: Space Hulk: Death Angel.

Needless to say, we got slaughtered in both attempts. The Space Marines just couldn't keep up with the swarming xenos. However, Brother Leon did make it to the final room in the second attempt, but he just couldn't release the toxins into the hulk before being overcome by the Genestealers.

Once again, next time we will be victorious.

So, hats off to you, SurfMonkey and Genestealers...until next time that is...

A Pictorial History of my Tabletop Gaming for the Week of Feb. 28th, 2011

Did I mention I love to play games...

SurfMonkey was over for our monthly night of games. First up was Castle Ravenloft. The game components are high quality as you would expect from WotC. We did opt, though, to use pre-painted minis from my collection for our characters. I was playing the Dwarf Cleric, and SurfMonkey was playing the Dragonborn.
We played two of the scenarios. The first one we won, and the second won we were defeated by the dracolich. Came close, though, but in the end, I had to use too many of my Encounter Powers too early. Oh, well.
I enjoyed the game, but it made me want to play an RPG. And not 4E, strangely enough. After exploring the nightmare world of the Castle, it was time to Summon forth more fun in two games of Summoner Wars.
In the first game, the Vanguards fell to the Precise strikes of the Phoenix Elves. Ouch. But the good news was, I finally got out the Magos. By that time, though, it was too late.
For the last game, my trusty Tundra Orcs smashed the undead. I mean, this game was all orcs. I almost felt bad for SurfMonkey. Nothing went his way. But hey, at least he won the first game. No matter what, though, when you play Summoner Wars, you have fun, win or lose. At least that has been my experience.

Guess What I Did Last Night?

My first 4 player game of Summoner Wars! It was intense. The tactical options that opened up were awesome. I love the wrap around board; really keeps you on your toes.

The dwarves and Phoenix Elves won, but it was the Guild Dwarves--piloted by Lirpa--who dominated the game. She always seemed to have Magic Points, always seemed to have Champions, and she rolled more hits than Charlie Sheen's Twitter Account.

There was one glimmer of hope in the end game when Iczer took Ragnor up against Oldin. He furied twice, and was a Fury away from taking him down. Being melded to his wall help the dwarven Summoner, but it could have been epic. As it was, the final gambit failed, and the Guild Dwarves carried the day.

Overall, an excellent good time was had by all. Thanks Starshielders!

P.S. I still have session reports coming, but they may just be a bit truncated as I am a bit distracted these days. Thanks for staying faithful to the blog. Until next time, may your dice roll true!

Session Reports On Their Way...

In the past two days, I have played Dreamblade, Cthulhu Dice, Castle Ravenloft, and Summoner Wars. It may take me awhile, but I will get up session reports and photos in the next couple of days. Stay tuned, good reader. And good gaming.

I Must Have This...

I am drooling. Positively drooling.

And These...
