Stand Up the Vanguard! And SurfMonkey Gets Pwnd!

Spring Break has broken and Cardfight! Vanguard fever is in full effect here at magehammer's Gaming Table. I have purchased two recent-ish Trial / Start decks and various singles to fill them out. I have been devouring YouTube videos of duels, deck profiles, and Cardfight Online beta duels.

Once again, this fast and furious game has captured my heart and the hearts of my boys.

SurfMonkey made it over for our monthly game night. He finally got his brand spankin' new Yu Gi Oh decks to the table. We also worked in an excellent Mage Wars Academy duel. It was a Beastmaster mirror match. SurfMonkey's uncanny ability to roll beyond well in this game was not enough to save him. I am looking forward to next month for more duels.

Maximan and I even got in a brief game of chess. Games, games, games!!

See you all next time. Thanks for visiting magehammer's Gaming Table. See you next time!

A Snowy Trek to SurfMonkey's Academy of Games

I braved the cold and the snow and trekked down to SurfMonkey's Lair for our monthly evening of gaming goodness.

The night began with two games of Mage Wars Academy. For the first game, I played my totally original and--as it turns out--totally weak Beast Master Spellbook. I learned the power of having armor for my mage. SurfMonkey steamrolled me.

For the second game of the evening, I played my tweaked Wizard's Spellbook. I fared much better in this game and if not for a late-game misplay (attacked when I should have guarded), I have no doubt I would have defeated SurfMonkey's Beastmaster. But as it was, he finished me off.

After that I introduced SurfMonkey to the venerable TCG Yu Gi Oh! He had watched the anime, so was slightly familiar with the game, though he had never played it.

We played a couple of my decks against each other and had a great time!

I count those duels as learning ones. Next time, he shall feel the full wrath of my monsters! Also, I am hoping he picks up some of his own cards, so he can make his own decks and truly try to claim the title of King of Games!

And, of course, Max and I have been playing frequently. Jasper has built a couple of his own decks, and I hope to meet him across the field for a duel soon as well.

Until next time, dear reader, keep on chucking dice and slinging cards!

SurfMonkey Takes Me To School At The Academy!

SurfMonkey and I got together on Tuesday night for our monthly game night. After our initial, muddled foray into the Sistarra Academy for Mages with the excellent game: Mage Wars Academy, we have been itching to get it back to the table now with a better idea of how to play.

Well, we got it back to the table all right: Three games worth! I played the Wizard and he, the Beastmaster, for the first two games. The first game was a long, fun battle that I lost. The second was a scrapper's skirmish. I lost that duel as well, but I was one turn away from the win as his mage had only 1 life point left. It was a great game! I made some dubious choices in the duel, which ultimately cost me the game, but man, was it fun to lose.

For our third game, we switched mages, and finally, I was triumphant!

We both agreed we are very interested in building our own spellbooks for these two mages and have agreed to play it again next month with our own creations. I can't wait! What a great game!

Until next time, keep on chuckin' dice and slingin' cards! And stay warm!!

Christmas Time Means Tabletop Time

Max wanted to play some Conquest here on Christmas break, so that's what we did. And Max won! It was a squeaker. In the end, Max's Space Marines beat up my Chaos Marines. Good times.

My gaming Christmas gift so far is the exciting Mage Wars Academy. Max and I have played three games so far, pictorially presented below. Some exciting dice rolls, Max pumping up his mana to 17! Creatures slamming into each other. This game has it all. Being able to choose the spell you want to play is a really cool and tactical aspect of this game that makes for a really fun experience. And did I mention dice?!

And of course, I have also managed to get in a solo game of my favorite, Call of Cthulhu LCG. This time it was the Hunters of the Agency vs. the Thousand Young of Shub. The Hunters ended up with an overwhelming victory!

With another family Christmas celebration and New Year's festivities coming up this week, stay tuned for even more gaming goodness here at magehammer's Gaming Table. Hope you all had a great holiday. See you soon!

SurfMonkey Runs the Table Plus Some Holiday Call of Cthulhu LCG

SurfMonkey and I got together this past Sunday for our monthly game night. Tonight we only got two games in, but lots of great conversation was had. He brought the shiny new Star Wars: Risk Edition. Since it is Star Wars Force Awakens season (great movie, btw), we were up for some Star Wars flavored gaming. In the end SurfMonkey's Rebels prevailed...as it should be.

Our next game was my newest acquisition in my I-love-card-games addiction:

We tried the game without a thorough reading of the rules, so the game was a bit choppy. However, through the foggy haze of no read rules/new game, we muddled through to a SurfMonkey victory. Looking forward to more plays of this game and more mages to play.

Of course, now that it's Christmas break time, I have been using some of my free time to play my favorite card game:

Here is a pictorial history of my recent games. Have fun figuring out the match ups.

Merry Christmas (or happy holidays) to all and to all good games!
