SurfMonkey, The Ho Crain, and Even More Tabletop Time!

Monthly game cards night with SurfMonkey. Our really cool, banner-style Vanguard and Luck and Logic playmats arrived and came out amazing. On the night, we played two games of Luck and Logic and two games of Cardfight! Vanguard. I ended the night at 1-1 in Luck and Logic and 1-1 in Cardfight Vanguard. Good times!

The day after SurfMonkey night, the Ho Crain stopped by for one last cards session before heading back to college. I lost every game I played except for a Luck and Logic game vs. Crain. I'm starting to think L&L might just be my game!!

Maximan has been running a D&D campaign for Jaspersauraus and me. I have to say I am having a blast playing a halfling sorcerer: Tendo Glowfoot and the human monk: Car Bladehand. Jasper is playing Capt. Facepuncher and a Dragonborn cleric named Conroe.

Our heroes have protected two villages from monster incursions and are looking to keep everyone safe for years to come.

There are games of Cardfight Vanguard daily.

Loving Luck and Logic and am eagerly anticipating the third Trial Deck!

Target had the excellent game Magic the Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers for $9.+. I couldn't pass it up. We played a couple of games and had fun doing it!

We even sneaked in a game of Rune Age.

Maximan has become interested in Imperial Assault. SurfMonkey generously allowed us to borrow his copy. Max won't get his until his birthday in November. We played two games so far, and it is even more fun than I remember.

See you all again soon. School looms on the horizon, with it less time to play games, but we will try to get them in when we can.

SurfMonkey Comes Over and Builds Some Decks

At our monthly game night, SurfMonkey and I played two games of Star Realms and then decided to make it a deck-builders night and play the Oath and Anvil expansion I received for Christmas from IMStuds.

I won both Star Realms games, and we both lost against the new version of the Dragonlord scenario. I played the orcs and SurfMonkey played the dwarves.

A nice relaxing night talking games and playing cards. Looking forward to next month already.

Games Played Update...

I haven't been keeping up with the blog as much as I like. I lost my drive to post here, but fear not, I am still playing a ton of games.

Here is what I have been doing since I last posted:

Three nights of SurfMonkey gaming.
A board game night with the Starshield Gaming Society.
Several meetings of the Red Dragon Gaming Society.
Discovered a couple of solo print and play games.

Games I can remember playing:

D&D Next
Pathfinder the Adventure Card Game
The Duke
Warhammer Invasion
Heroes & Perils RPG (my homebrew)
Summoner Wars
Space Hulk: Death Angel
Rune Age
Dungeon Command
King of Tokyo
Zombie Mod of solo game Thermopylae with Fear and Faith mechanics. I call my mod The Last Stand. I have played it four times.
Dino Hunt

There may have been more games, but I think I got them all.

I will return to more regular postings here eventually, but until then, folks, enjoy the remainder of the holiday season. I will see you again in 2014!

King of Tokyo: SurfMonkey Brings on a Rune Age While Waging a Summoner's War

On our monthly game night, SurfMonkey and I brought quite a few games to the tables. I suppose with the exception of one game, it was a night of Fillers. Not that there is anything wrong with that...

First up was the fast and furious King of Tokyo! A game I had heard raves about and that, IMHO, lived up to the hype. Dice rolling modified with cards providing special attacks and powers. SurfMonkey and I played two monsters each.

The only improvement I think it needs is to provide a special ability for each of the monsters as to set them apart. Otherwise, though, it was fun and solid game by the designer of Magic the Gathering. I guess you really can't go wrong with a pedigree like that.

Next up, I exposed SurfMonkey to the fun dice roller, Martian Dice! I pulled out a last minute set of rolls that took me over the 25 point limit and utterly crushed SurfMonkey's hopes of stealing anymore Earthlings. A fun, quick filler that makes me smile when it hits the table.

It had been awhile since this deck builder had hit the table. I had been in the mood for it lately, and I am glad SurfMonkey suggested it. We tried the fully co-op scenario, Cataclysm. Man, is that one hard! We played it three times and only made it to the third stage of the Event deck once. Whew. Was it tough. He was playing the Uthark Yllan, and I the Latari Elves. I always enjoy this game and need to bring it to the table more.

Although SurfMonkey and I have been playing Summoner Wars to death on the iOS, we still felt it needed to hit the table. If for no other reason than to try out my brand new faction dice!

As always, it was an epic struggle. I was playing the Sand Goblins vs. his Shadow Elves. In a brilliant ending move, with one of his Summoner bearing down on my Summoner, I used Silts to bring the sneak beat down to Selundar, ending the battle. What a finish! What a game!

What do we have in store for next month? I know not. What I do know is it will be a good time. Until next time, good reader. Play more Summoner Wars!

SurfMonkey Barely Survives the Rune Age only to Qonquer Quarriors!

On Tuesday, SurfMonkey came over for our monthly night of gaming goodness! He had been itching to play my two newest arrivals, Rune Age, and Quarriors!

I let him choose, and we began with Rune Age. Hey opted to play the Latari Elves. I have never played the Uthuk Y'llan, so I went for it. I, of course, chose the Dragonlords scenario. Maybe someday I will play another of the scenarios, but for now, I am trying to get maximum mileage out of it.

SurfMonkey, being a veteran gamer, warmed to the rules immediately. We were taking Strongholds, generating Influence, buying troops in no time. His first run against a sitting Dragonlord showed him the power of the Warp-touched Attrition Die...His elves failed to secure the Dragonlord Reward.

My barbaric forces with the help of three, yes, three Demons, sent the main Dragonlord to his end. Ah, sweet victory...

For our second game, SurfMonkey suggested we trade factions but play against the Dragonlords again. I was all for it! I had never played the elves in multiplayer before, so I was intrigued to see how they would play.

Poor SurfMonkey learned the horrid powers of the Attrition die in several of forays against the Dragonlords, including the big boss himself. With apologies to Rick Moranis: Many Warlocks and Chaos Lords knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the dragon's gullet that day, I can tell you!

I, however, experienced one of the greatest moments in my gaming history when I took my elves against the Big Bad. I had a hand of a Demon, 2 Pegasus Riders, and a Darnati Warrior, and 2 Storm Sorceresses thanks to Bountiful Harvest. . I decided to go for it, hoping the Riders would deliver. And, man, did they ever. They yielded me another Demon, another Pegasus Rider, which yielded me another Darnati Warrior. The rest of my hand hit the table, and the Attrition Die came up blank for a total of 32 Strength! (To be fair, I play a house rule that shuffles Bountiful Harvest back into the Event Deck with the Stage 2 cards. I may re-think that rule after my crushing victory over the Dragonlords).

Then it was on to my newest game and one of my current favorites, Quarriors! I set up the game and explained to my opponent. He had no problem picking it up, and we were off and rolling.

I just have to say that SurfMonkey was born to play this game. I managed to to muster up good hands and great creatures, but so did he. He made good use of his spells, and so did I, but in the end, SurfMonkey scored his Glory greater than mine.

SurfMonkey and I ended the night at two games apiece. A good night for sure. SurfMonkey said, "Rune Age is freakin' cool." And of Quarriors! he said, "It's all right. At least I can win at it." So, I have a feeling I can expect some more of Terrinoth in future gaming sessions, and I have a feeling I haven't seen the last of the Wilds either...

Thanks for reading and until next time, may your dice roll your way, and play, play, play.
