Games Played Update...

I haven't been keeping up with the blog as much as I like. I lost my drive to post here, but fear not, I am still playing a ton of games.

Here is what I have been doing since I last posted:

Three nights of SurfMonkey gaming.
A board game night with the Starshield Gaming Society.
Several meetings of the Red Dragon Gaming Society.
Discovered a couple of solo print and play games.

Games I can remember playing:

D&D Next
Pathfinder the Adventure Card Game
The Duke
Warhammer Invasion
Heroes & Perils RPG (my homebrew)
Summoner Wars
Space Hulk: Death Angel
Rune Age
Dungeon Command
King of Tokyo
Zombie Mod of solo game Thermopylae with Fear and Faith mechanics. I call my mod The Last Stand. I have played it four times.
Dino Hunt

There may have been more games, but I think I got them all.

I will return to more regular postings here eventually, but until then, folks, enjoy the remainder of the holiday season. I will see you again in 2014!

School's Out; Games Are In!

Over the past couple of days, Maximan66 and I have played a couple of games of Warhammer Invasion. My collection keeps growing and the decks keep getting cooler.

From the Battle of the Old World, we turned to the battlefields of Song of Blades and Heroes and the war torn lands in a Galaxy Far, Far Away...Max won both of the conflicts, but soon I will rally reinforcements and destroy his forces once and for all...no matter which battlefield we clash on.
Saturday was family game night. The whole family sat down for a relaxing game of adventurers and intrigue that is Lords of Waterdeep. I beat the love of my life by 1 point! Epic.
Max wanted to see what Dungeon Command was all about, so we sat down to a skirmish between the Heroes of Cormyr and the Blood of Grummsh. The orcs won the day, but it was a good time. The more I play this game, the more I like it.

The summer is only beginning and the games will keep coming. After a month's hiatus, SurfMonkey will be back in the next entry. Have fun and use sun screen.

Starshield Boardgame Night and the Return of SurfMonkey

Monday night I traveled to Starshield HQ to introduce Zoltar to a gem of my new Christmas presents: Dungeon Command. I received The Heroes of Cormyr and the Tyranny of Goblins game packs. I love the models in each set and enjoy this cool little skirmish game.

How did Zoltar like it? Well, he was a bit lukewarm about some of the wording on the cards and minis games haven't always been his thing, but I think he enjoyed most of the experience. It didn't help that he was defeated on the field of battle, though...

Then Tuesday was SurfMonkey time! He brought a favorite of his: Pixel Tactics and one I was looking forward to (as was he) Fantasy Flight's Star Wars the Card Game! This game is by the same designer as my beloved Warhammer Invasion, so I had high hopes.

First up was Pixel Tactics. SurfMonkey brought a really cool playmat specifically for the game. He also brought Fantasy Flight game tokens. Curse him! Now I have to go buy these quality, cool game bling that I don't really need! Anyway. My leader in Pixel Tactics allowed me an extra action every time. I felt this ability was a bit too powerful, and I easily dominated poor SurfMonkey's forces. The game was essentially over by the mid-game. He just couldn't keep up.

Then we pulled out Star Wars. We used pre-built decks designed for the first play. As I mentioned before I had high hopes for this game loving both Fantasy Flight and Eric Lang. I was not disappointed! I played the Empire, and if it weren't for running out of cards, I was primed to crush the rebellion.

Next game I am going to have to manage my hand and deck better. It is a solid game with great design and--being a Fantasy Flight production--top notch art and components. The art is all new for this game which is a victory for Fantasy Flight. I love the Force mechanisms and the Edge battles before conflict resolves. All of it combines to bring a lot of depth to the game.

That's all for now, folks. Back to the gaming table for me. Have a good one; see you soon..

KatoKatonian and Stormbringr: Summoning Dungeon Commands

Strombringr and KatoKatonian stopped by for a brief visit on Saturday. Stormbringr and I taught Kato the game as he played against Maximan. In the end, Kato defeated Max's beleaguered forces. Kato played the Vanguards and Max the Shadow Elves.

Next we sat down to play the new Wizards of the Coast miniatures skirmish game, Dungeon Command. I played the Heart of Cormyr faction while Kato played the Sting of Lolth faction.

I won, but it was a hard-fought battle. The components are top-notch, the minis are pre-painted, so I can use them for playing RPGs. I enjoyed the game and am going to place it on my Christmas list.

Stormbringr was a great audience. Thanks for an afternoon of gaming. It was good to see you guys.

Until next time, may your warriors swing true, and your wizards spell someone's doom.
