As the Lovecraft time of year approaches, I decided to try out a new Arkham Files game from Fantasy Flight Games to provide a different style of game than my usual solo Call of Cthulhu LCG play.
This game has intrigued me since it came out a couple of years ago. Being a fully cooperative game, it also plays excellently solo.
I got it to the table and was able to play a complete game piecemeal over four days time. Final verdict: It's a blast! I played three investigators trying to prevent Azathoth from entering our world and devouring it.
I didn't lose a single investigator, though they were pretty beat up, and it was a romping good time. I have purchased the Mountains of Madness big box expansion and will work its additions into the next game. I also have the first expansion, Forsaken Lore on order at my FLGS. Can't wait for more terrible goodness to infect my games!
I have a feeling this gem of a game will find plenty of play throughout the fall and into the winter. Can't wait to play it again!
Until next time, play some games!!
Eldritch Horror is a real delight. It's like the designers took what they learned from years of Arkham Horror expansions and house rules to make an elegant co-operative adventure experience.
ReplyDeleteTruly. Well said!
DeleteMy fond wish is that FFG eventually ports Arkham Horror's setting into the Eldritch rule set. I have a certain affection for the small town New England vibe.
