A Bad Night for SurfMonkey and Other Stories

SurfMonkey came over for our monthly game night. As with our last meeting, card games were featured. We started out with my current favorite card game: Call of Cthulhu LCG. SurfMonkey played my newly constructed Mi-Go deck while I played my Order of the Silver Twilight build.

It was a great game. I got off to a fast start, but once the Mi Go were up and running, the game swung his way. In the end, the bounce effect of my Silver Twilight Lodge characters won me the day, three stories to two! Awesome game!

Then we moved to Epic. We played with the demi god builds. The picture below pretty much tells you how the games went for SurfMonkey.

Our final game of the night was VS. System 2PCG. I played Iron Man Avengers build. He played the Deadpool X Men build. Neither of us leveled our main characters, and in the end, the Avengers were victorious.

Also, in the past couple of days, I managed to get in several solo games of Call of Cthulhu vs. Minion 2.0.

The first game was Shub vs. a Tome-heavy Miskatonic Investigator deck. It was a great game. In the end, Shub broke the world with a Dimensional Rift, and won the game on the next turn. Epic!

Then I played my Silver Twilight deck vs. the Cthulhu deck. It was a struggle, but in the end, the Lodge won.

Max and I also got in a quick game of Epic one day after school. Good vs. Wild. Wild was victorious.

One night the boys and I also got in a game of King of Tokyo using the Halloween edition dice. Fun times!

On the Starshield Game Society front, SurfMonkey takes his place 'behind the screen' and is running a Titansgrave campaign. My character is a blaster-happy halfling called Roldice Maifoot. Looking forward to playing the Fantasy AGE system for the first time.

That's all for now. I expect the next time I post, it will include some more Call of Cthulhu. We'll see...

The Call Is Stronger Than Ever

I have been playing a lot of Call of Cthulhu LCG lately. Building decks and having fun. I have been playing the Cthulhu Rising V. 2 solo rules.

Game 1: Miskatonic Investigators vs. Cthulhu. I won this one!!!!

Game 2: Miskatonic Investigators vs. Yog. I won this one, too! Take that, Minion!

After school one day this week, Maximan and I sat down for a game. He played his beloved Agency Hunter deck vs. my brand spankin' new Hastur deck.

The Agency beat the crap out of the followers of the King in Yellow.

The game is still engaging me after all these years. I even have three Asylum packs in the mail. More cards = more decks = more fun. The Call is strong indeed!

The Call of Cthulhu is Strong This Time of Year

As is my custom in the fall, I tend to be drawn toward Lovecraft's legacy more so than during the other seasons. In the gaming realm, I turn to what has become my favorite card game, Call of Cthulhu LCG. With the excellent solo rules found on Board Game Geek, I am able to play in my spare moments. Which is exactly what I did this past week and weekend.

First up, I played a game using the Cthulhu Rising solo rules version 1. I had recently built a Miskatonic University deck around the Explorers sub faction. I decided to play against Shub. It was a really close game losing 3 stories to 2. It was tense and the thinking got brain-burny. I loved every second of it.

For my next game, I decided to finally give the Cthulhu Rising rules version 2.0. It is a bit more complicated than version 1, but I figured I really had nothing to lose to try it out. For the first game, I decided to play against the mighty Cthulhu.

The game was a tense one, but in the end, my explorers were only able to win 1 story to 3. I thought in the beginning I was going to get further than I did, but an amazing draw of characters on the part of Cthulhu and a less than stellar character draw for me, spelled the scholars' doom.

Version 2 didn't prove to be too much more complicated than version 1, so I will be playing it over version 1 for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of Lovecraft's legacy, our Trail of Cthulhu has continued. Our investigators have found themselves in Ethiopia following the trail of a cultist professor who may hold the key to the fateful night in August many years ago.

I do love fall!

SurfMonkey Was in the Cards

SurfMonkey made it through the pleasant weather to participate in our monthly game night. We have both come into card games recently and needed to get them to the table.

First up, Epic! We played two faction games with me winning two hard fought duels. We played a third game after playing VS. System 2PCG with the demigod cards. That was an epic (see what I did there), knock down, tooth and claw, drag down fight. Both of us in single digits, I eked out a win at the last second. Great fun!

We played one game of VS. He played the Avengers, and I played the villains. Capt. America vs. Loki. My first time playing Loki. I just couldn't get the Plot Twist engine going. He probably is not the best choice for the suggested villain deck. I look forward to building a deck around him eventually once the pre-constructs have run their course.

I am already looking forward to next month. More cards and maybe we will pull out a board game...maybe.

Autumn Time and the Gaming Is Easy...

The boys' campaign continues as they cleared the Dungeon of Crane the Sorcerer. They have now been mysteriously been whisked to a snowed in cave somewhere. Giants seem to be a hazard in this cave...

More solo CoC LCG fun. I took my newly built Order of the Silver Twilight mono deck vs. the evil minion, piloting my Cthulhu deck. Cthulhu's minions ate my head.

Maximan and I pulled out the Demigod cards and their decklists and played two games. The demigods were fun. I think I may want to build my own decks with them, but I guess that's not the point. They added a small twist to play. Can't wait to play with them some more.

Cthulhu destroyed the Lodge...again.

As the season slogs on, I shall escape more and more to the tabletop and my dice and my cards.
