Power Legion: Roll Call 1

Summer time means games.

Especially games I don't get to throughout the busier parts of the year. I bought Power Legion when it came out and was very excited about it. It is a cool system for supers combat on the tabletop using all of the polyhedral dice most gamers have lying around the house.

As soon as I perused the rules, I immediately converted my Supers! RPG original characters to the Power Legion system, dug up some pre-painted D&D and Star Wars miniatures who could pass as those characters and prepared to play a game...That game never happened.

A few months passed, and my interest was re-kindled in the game. I wanted to buy a print copy, and recently, Ganesha Games offered up a Lulu.com sale on his books, so I went for it. Now with my PDF copy and print copy, the boys and I are gearing up for some super brawls. We played an introductory skirmish the other night to see the rules in action. Finally, the game was on the table! And it is fun!

That night, I plundered my mini collection for the most super-looking minis I could find and statted up a bunch. The boys and I are going to sit down for a few more brawls in the coming days. I have decided to give you all a look at the characters who will be populating our tabletop battlefield. Enjoy:

Ace: Breather

That's it for now. I will be posting more characters, including the Unstoppables (my Supers! RPG characters) and play reports here in the coming days.

Hope you enjoy this as much as we do.

Until next time, Game on!

Star Realms and D&D with the Boys!

Seems this summer is made for more Star Realms. I bought the Crisis packs, slipped them into the main deck, and sleeved up everything.

We have been playing two player and Raid with Dinoboy.

We have also returned to the Quests of Doom. The boys' heroes are currently infiltrating a floating fortress of bone ruled by giants who have been terrorizing the countryside. Their characters have just hit 7th level. Things are heating up.

Good times.

Song of Sons and Father...

With the summer break in full swing, the boys and I have found some time to play some games. Expect much more content as my free time increases.

First up, at the boys' request, we broke out Song of Blades and Heroes, a perennial favorite in the Geek Cave. We played one game of Treasure Hunt. The youngest, Captain Facepuncher, came out with the win, sending one of his models carrying the MacGuffin off the table. Bravo, son!

The next day Maximan wanted to play a capture the flag scenario. It was the boys against me, 5 minis to a side. In the end, the game turned into a Destroy 'em All style game with me on the losing end of the deal.

Thanks for the games, boys. See you at the gaming table soon...

Starshield Boardgame Knights Invade the Geek Cave

Weezoh and Brigid were in town, so the Starshield Boardgame Knights took the opportunity to gather around the tabletop deep in the bowels of the Geek Cave for some old fashioned board and card games.

Weezoh and I got in a pre-game night hand of Call of Cthulhu. Weezoh played my mono Shub deck while I pulled out the Government Agency deck. It was hard fought struggle as the agents of humanity strove mightily against the fecund forces of the Great Mother. In the end, humanity won but by a slim margin. Man stood on the precipice of extinction but was pulled back before he could topple into the abyss of madness. Love that game!

First up was a new hotness: Libertalia! Yarrrr! A role selection game placing us all in the roles of various personalities from the hey day of piracy. Yarrrr!!!

We moved from the vast seas to the monster-infested streets of Tokyo. Scree joined us for this one and wonder upon wonder, the stars must have aligned (or the world is ending), but Iczer6 won!!!!!!

Here he is documenting his win. I have a feeling he will be bragging about this victory to his co workers at Giant Eagle...

SurfMonkey brought our next title: The Dice Tower Essentials darling, Sheriff of Nottingham. I enjoyed the bluffing and funny ways we all tried to convince the Sheriff to let us pass. However, everyone went Gandalf on me (Thou shall not pass!!!), and I came in dead last.

We finished out a most excellent game night with the star-faring deck builder, Star Realms. It was everyone's but mine first time playing multi player. We chose the Hunter (attack to the left) game variant and had a great time. Iczer6 and Brigid did great for their first game with Brigid eradicating Iczer6 and me in one turn. But her husband won the Realms with a culled out deck via Machine Cult craftiness. Well done!

Always a pleasure to game with good friends. Looking forward to the next game night! Game on, Knights, Game on!
