Cold And Snow Days = Games, Games, Games!

The arctic cold and a snow storm provided me and the boys some extra time we filled with fun times at the tabletop.

Former students braved the cold for some Cardfight!! Vanguard and King of Tokyo.

 Lots of card game playing. Here Max and I play Cardfight!! Vanguard, Warhammer Invasion, and Warhammer 40K Conquest. Max is really loving Conquest.

We, of course, spent a good amount of time playing Dungeons & Dragons. The boys' heroes are delving in The Tomb of Abysthor. I am converting it on the fly from 3.5 to 5E. Love a great dungeon crawl! The boys are loving it too as they crawl toward 6th level!

Sunday night I went online to play in a side campaign D&D 5E game run by friend of the blog, Weezoh. My halfling abjurer, Septimus Tealeaf, is one of my favorite characters I have run in long time. 

More D&D with the boys. Things got rough vs. Gorbash and Draeligor the Wight down in the Burial Halls, but the adventurers persevered and defeated a great evil in the bargain. 

Monday's surprise snow storm led to more Conquest! 

I love D&D and collectible/living card games!

Into the Defiled Tomb!

The boys and I continued our Dungeons & Dragons campaign tonight, our first game since school resuming from Christmas Break. 

This session launches a new chapter in their adventures. The adventurers were enjoying some down time in the Burr Hollow Inn when a crow sent them on the way to their old friend, Lorelei the Hamadryad. She had sent them to deal with a dwarven ghost wailing about his resting place being disturbed. 

The so-called Steelhand Heroes are now fighting for their lives in the ancient dwarven tomb, infested with goblins and bugbears. 

As a side note Max rolled about 9 natural 1s, including three 1s in a row!

Great times!

Holiday Gaming!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and Happy Holidays!

It was a great holiday season here at magehammer's Gaming Table. The season was bright and joyful. To make it even better, there was plenty of gaming going on as the following pictorial journey will show.

 Taught my dad and my brother how to play Coin Age.

 I bought King of Tokyo as the family game present this year. 

 We, of course, got in some more D&D. This time with Jasper running a dungeon. Our characters died.

 Grandpa really enjoyed playing King of Tokyo. Especially because he won in such an exciting fashion. He rolled six 3s on three rolls to win the game.

 Dixit hit the table many times over the course of the holiday festivities: From Christmas to New Years.

'Twas 2 Nights Before Christmas And Dice Through The House...

I have been running a D&D campaign for my boys for several months now. It began with the Fifth Edition Fantasy modules put out by Goodman Games (both short, excellent adventures!) and have continued on into a dungeon of my own: The Lost Halls of the Steelhand Clan.

Max is running an Eldritch Knight named Major Orchard. 

Jasper is running a Dragonborn Wizard named Captain Teamat.

I am running an NPC dwarf cleric of Clanggeddin, Kardrell Stormpeace. 

All of the characters are currently 4th level.

Wow! Are we having fun. Fun is what D&D should be. 

Thanksgiving Games

Conquest Over SurfMonkey

 

Last Tuesday SurfMonkey braved the cold to attend our monthly game night. I had just received my second copy of the Warhammer 40k Conquest LCG. We separated and organized the cards from both sets.

From there we built a deck each. SurfMonkey went with a Chaos/Dark Eldar deck while I went with a Space Marine / Astra Militarum build.

I won 2 of 3. All games were close. And FUN! 

Looking forward to playing again. 

Hey, Chummer. SurfMonkey and I Went on a Couple of Shadowruns and Traveled to Some Planets for Some Conquest

SurfMonkey brought Shadowrun Crossfire to our monthly game night. I really liked the game and look forward to playing it again. It is difficult, though! After four runs, my mage finally survived for 1 point of karma. Looking forward to playing it again. 

Next up was my newest acquisition, the Games Workshop licensed Fantasy Flight Living Card Game: Warhammer 40,000: Conquest. This game replaced Warhammer: Invasion in Fantasy Flight's LCG lineup. 

Though I was unhappy to see W:I go, I am happy to say this game is a worthy successor.

The flavor and theme are exciting, the game mechanics are nothing original and borrows mechanics from several of FFG's LCG lineup. The mechanics do, however, meld into a fast, furious, and fun head to head experience. 

SurfMonkey and I both really enjoyed our battle and are looking forward to more games of it.
