Christmas Time Means Tabletop Time

Max wanted to play some Conquest here on Christmas break, so that's what we did. And Max won! It was a squeaker. In the end, Max's Space Marines beat up my Chaos Marines. Good times.

My gaming Christmas gift so far is the exciting Mage Wars Academy. Max and I have played three games so far, pictorially presented below. Some exciting dice rolls, Max pumping up his mana to 17! Creatures slamming into each other. This game has it all. Being able to choose the spell you want to play is a really cool and tactical aspect of this game that makes for a really fun experience. And did I mention dice?!

And of course, I have also managed to get in a solo game of my favorite, Call of Cthulhu LCG. This time it was the Hunters of the Agency vs. the Thousand Young of Shub. The Hunters ended up with an overwhelming victory!

With another family Christmas celebration and New Year's festivities coming up this week, stay tuned for even more gaming goodness here at magehammer's Gaming Table. Hope you all had a great holiday. See you soon!

SurfMonkey Runs the Table Plus Some Holiday Call of Cthulhu LCG

SurfMonkey and I got together this past Sunday for our monthly game night. Tonight we only got two games in, but lots of great conversation was had. He brought the shiny new Star Wars: Risk Edition. Since it is Star Wars Force Awakens season (great movie, btw), we were up for some Star Wars flavored gaming. In the end SurfMonkey's Rebels prevailed...as it should be.

Our next game was my newest acquisition in my I-love-card-games addiction:

We tried the game without a thorough reading of the rules, so the game was a bit choppy. However, through the foggy haze of no read rules/new game, we muddled through to a SurfMonkey victory. Looking forward to more plays of this game and more mages to play.

Of course, now that it's Christmas break time, I have been using some of my free time to play my favorite card game:

Here is a pictorial history of my recent games. Have fun figuring out the match ups.

Merry Christmas (or happy holidays) to all and to all good games!

StormBringer Sidetrek and Red Dragon Tabletop Game Society

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to make an overnight trip up to Tiny House to visit StormBringer and MEM. It was a good time filled with good food, great conversation, and as always, great games. This particular trip the great game in question was, of course:

A learning game introduced StormBringer to the strange but awesome world of the Call of Cthulhu. He played the Cthulhu faction and caught on quite quickly to the basic mechanics of the game.

From there, we played a game, rematching the decks from the learning game. Cthulhu was triumphant.

The next day, we took cops vs. robbers...twice. The first time the Syndicate and Mr. David Pan had the Agency's number, but the second game was a good back and forth, but ultimately, the Agency won out.

Our final game involved randomly rolled decks: StormBringer got the Explorers of Miskatonic University while I rolled the Hunters of the Agency.

This unlikely match up was filled with a cerebral tete-a-tete that ended with the explorers fighting off the hunters to be victorious. What a brain burner it was and a heckuva lot of fun!

Thanks for the games, StormBringer! See you soon.

After a fun weekend of CoC at StormBringer's I was up for more gaming at Red Dragon HQ for the most recent session of the Red Dragon Tabletop Game Society (of which I am the organizer and faculty founder). This session I played the sparkly new cooperative game WarhammerQuest Adventure Card Game. We won the tutorial and were well on our way to winning the first phase of the campaign.

It is a fun game, less fiddly than PACG, but for now, I think I will play it at the Society a bit more before deciding to buy it.

That's all for now. SurfMonkey next week. Also, Christmas break is coming which usually means more gaming!

Turkey Game Daze

Turkey day festivities usually leave room for games. This year was no exception.  Before we traveled to Cbus for family and feasting, I managed to get in a couple solo games of Call of Cthulhu LCG with newly tweaked decks. I was victorious.

Then in Cbus we introduced the cousins to Epic the Card Game and Chess! Good times were had by all.

Looking forward to the Christmas season and even more gaming! Not to mention a side trek to StormBringer's house. Stay tuned!

A Bad Night for SurfMonkey and Other Stories

SurfMonkey came over for our monthly game night. As with our last meeting, card games were featured. We started out with my current favorite card game: Call of Cthulhu LCG. SurfMonkey played my newly constructed Mi-Go deck while I played my Order of the Silver Twilight build.

It was a great game. I got off to a fast start, but once the Mi Go were up and running, the game swung his way. In the end, the bounce effect of my Silver Twilight Lodge characters won me the day, three stories to two! Awesome game!

Then we moved to Epic. We played with the demi god builds. The picture below pretty much tells you how the games went for SurfMonkey.

Our final game of the night was VS. System 2PCG. I played Iron Man Avengers build. He played the Deadpool X Men build. Neither of us leveled our main characters, and in the end, the Avengers were victorious.

Also, in the past couple of days, I managed to get in several solo games of Call of Cthulhu vs. Minion 2.0.

The first game was Shub vs. a Tome-heavy Miskatonic Investigator deck. It was a great game. In the end, Shub broke the world with a Dimensional Rift, and won the game on the next turn. Epic!

Then I played my Silver Twilight deck vs. the Cthulhu deck. It was a struggle, but in the end, the Lodge won.

Max and I also got in a quick game of Epic one day after school. Good vs. Wild. Wild was victorious.

One night the boys and I also got in a game of King of Tokyo using the Halloween edition dice. Fun times!

On the Starshield Game Society front, SurfMonkey takes his place 'behind the screen' and is running a Titansgrave campaign. My character is a blaster-happy halfling called Roldice Maifoot. Looking forward to playing the Fantasy AGE system for the first time.

That's all for now. I expect the next time I post, it will include some more Call of Cthulhu. We'll see...
